Driveline & Transmission Testing

Ricardo’s history of driveline and transmission testing dates back over fifty years to the pioneering work of Harry Ferguson Research in all-wheel drive systems. Strategic investment over the past decade has created a world-class transmission test and development capability at Ricardo. The company’s test and development facilities, knowledge and expertise is fundamental to its highly successful transmission product design capability but is also available as a separate service to customers.

World-class transmission test and development services:

• Preparation and management of complete validation programmes
• Development testing of driveline systems and components
• In-house facilities for a wide range of tests including two- and four-wheel drive (3E and 5E) rigs
• NVH semi-anechoic chamber specifically created for transmission whine noise measurements
• Rig test facilities including gearshift durability, tilt, deflection and end of line testing for production systems
• Component testing including synchronizers, gearshift systems, deflection measurements, gear marking and profile development
• Design and manufacture of CVT test chambers for fluid development testing
• Replicating client problems in order to understand causal mechanisms and hence develop problem resolutions
• Expert consultancy and advice to help customers specify their own test equipment and facilities
• Liaising with specialist test houses to offer extended capabilities
