Ricardo has expertise in electric machine (e-motor) design for automotive powertrain applications. This is complimented by a strong capability in power electronics design (DC-AC inverters, DC-DC, etc.) to provide complete electric drivetrain solutions

E-Motor design:

  • Our expertise in E-machine design covers: 
         - Surfaced Permanent Magnet machine (SPM)
         - Induction machine (IM)
         - Interior Permanent Magnet machine (IPM)
         - Switched Reluctance machine (SRM)
  • Key design features:
         - Wide speed range constant power capability
         - Very high-torque at low speed from standstill for rapid 
           engine starting
         - Provide high-efficiency output in primary operationing region
  • Target: Efficiency for 10~100% speed, >20% rated torque:  =>90%

 Motor control development includes:

  • Full vector (torque) control with field weakening (wide CPRS)
  • Protection, fault handlindg and I/O specification
  • Microprocessor core development
  • Bus interfaces (CAN)
  • Mechanical housing package/design/thermal analysis

Power electronics capability includes:

  • Power Converters
     
         - Inverters for motor drives
          - DC-DC Converters: Isolated design for LV
            supply requirements
          - High Power DC-DC for battery interfacing
          - High rate on-board charging

  • Ancillaries
          - Electric Pump drives (HVAC, Power Steering, Brake assistance, etc.)
          - Sensorless motor drives for harsh environments (e.g. oil pumps)
